Term 1, 2, 4 operation groups:
The whole of grade 6 are split in to 4 different groups depending on how much you know about either, Multiplication, Subtraction, Division, and Addition. They are the 4 operation groups. What happens is, we go off each week and we all do Multiplication, Addition, Division, and Subtraction. For (Eg), On Friday, the 4 groups would go off and do Multiplication for that day, then the next week the 4 groups would all go off and do Subtraction, (ect). I believe I do my best in all the groups and try my hardest, But I do believe that I am much better at Addition then all the others, and because that is the one I find easier then the others, Addition is my favorite one though.
Multiplication groups: In our Multiplication groups we go off in groups with the teachers, there is a teacher that takes the highest group, and that is Mr. Graeme. Then the next teacher is Miss S, she takes the lower group that aren’t as good at times tables then the other group.
I am in Mr. Graeme’s group; we have to write down in our math’s book A-Z. Then Mr. Graeme puts a list of questions up on the board from A-Z, and then he mixes them up and starts the timer. As soon as he starts the timer we start writing down just the answers in our book near the letters. Then when everyone is finished Mr. Graeme puts up the order of the people that came, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. When we had our first lesson I got, 6:02 seconds, and now the last session I got, 1:30seconds, that is my lowest time that I have ever gotten before. I believe by the results that I am improving on my times tables.
Test cricket, term 1:
In term 1 we had to find a partner to do our test cricket with, I picked Madi D to do mine with. What you had to do was roll 1dice and see what it turned out to be, if you got a zero you would write 0 down on your sheet, but if you got anything above 0, you would write down the number you got in your table. You would have to keep playing until you get 3 zero’s on your sheet so you could go on for ages. Then when you get 3 zero’s on your sheet, you go to the other side of your sheet and write down how many 3’s you got in that game, and how many 2’s you got in that game, and how many 1’s you got in that game. Then after you put down how many numbers you got, you have to make a total and add them all up.
Then you give the dice to your partner for them to have a go at it. The main idea of the game was to see how much your total was between your partner, then who ever gets the highest wins. We had to do etleast 11 rounds each before we could move on to doing the activity on the computer.
Term 2, pizza graph:
What we had to do was to pick a sized pizza we wanted to work with for that session.
I picked a 12cm by 12cm circle. We had to work out prices for each piece of pizza, and even for the whole pizza at once.
After that, we had to pick 4 different toppings we wanted our pizza to have on it.
I picked Ham, Cheese, Pineapple, and capsicum; they were my 4 toppings that I chose for my pizza. After that we had to decorate our pizza and around our page. Then after that we all had to do another graph and work out our totals. Once we finished that part we had to go back to our tables and think of a name for our pizza’s.
